The Road Not Taken

 "The Road Not Taken"
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence;
Two roads diverged in wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
-Robert Frost (1874 - 1963)

Maybe Mom and Dad will bring me to AZ for track out to see you. I'd like to send you a picture, is there anything you really like that I can draw for you? Love, Regan

Alika,
Howsit, this is Mr Minn... Vails dad.
Ive been peeking into your site and found your writing to be very insightful and inspiring.
I also enjoy you metaphors regarding your "fight" because as you know. that term has been part of our family in many different ways... "Boxing" which is a form of "fighting" has been our family's love and my professional hobby.
I get to observe, first hand and up close, the best fighters in the world, compete to be known as the best.What I have observed leads me to believe that there are defined characteristics that often lead to success. I will name them in the priority with the most impt last as I see many of these qualities
exemplified in you.

1. Courage- without this you dont have a chance
2. Committment- Willing to accept everything in order to be successful
3.intelligence- knowledge equals power and skills
4. Heart-The steeliness to never break or give up. U know how steel is made? You pound it over and over but in an educated manner.
And if it doesnt break, you have an invicible material stronger then before.
Boxers have been hit within 3 ft of me where there eyeballs actually roll, and as they gaze at me, I can see their effort to reagain consciousness.. and some do.No matter how much crap is being beaten out of them, they never quit and slowly you see the momentum in the fight change and its usually the one with the biggest will that survives.
That is somthing that is admired by everyone, everywhere and that
is what I see in you.
5. Attitude- no matter if you have all of the above, w/o the proper attitude, you have as much chance for success as a "one legged man in an asskicking contest".
You know of guys with tremendous talent but wrong attitude.
Your attitude is where it should be.
In any fight there are good rounds and bad rounds.... momentum changes, and rousing all out blows that hurt & damage, but the major purpose is to survive and be there at the end, with your arms raised...not only because of victory but more so for the
dignity & pride of the
accomplishment, and all that was endured and also learned.
People tell me,"oh, how can you love boxing? Its so violent and brutal..it's inhumane..blah blah.
Well everyone has a right to their opinions but opionions are like a/holes..everyone has one but they
dont see what I see.
Alika,let me share what I tell them.
From the 1st seconds you come into this world from birth, your
"FIGHTING. You fight to breathe,you fight to survive,every second you live you are competing in some manner. Fighting just brings it down to a primal level where theres no excuse, no one to blame, nobody to pt to... and it is done with courage, dignity, and justice."Wow, what more could you ask for.
But Boxing as a form of fighting also has one thing no other sport has.
No what it is? You can hit a basket and still lose..hit a homerun and still lose.. but we have the "knockout" and when this occurs, thats it. It's completely over...no gripes.. pau
That is what I expect from you-
a knockout victory but it takes time and effort but knowing you, it will happen.
Alika, you stay in there and keep punching son, and when it get's tough, as they say in the ring.." grit your teeth and enjoy the ride, because it will soon
be over" and then it will be your time to dish it out."
I'll see you back in Hawaii & hope I didnt bore you with my thoughts.

Take care as we care
Aloha
